Toutes les enchères / Autres / yoël benharrouche - L’homme à la corbeille de fruit

Original work by Yoël Benharrouche, Israeli painter and sculptor born in 1961 in Beersheba. His work is characterized by a particularly luminous palette, stylized figuration, and compositions in which geometric forms, color, and symbolic dimension occupy a central place. His works are notably marked by cubist, symbolist and fauve influences, while retaining a personal plastic language. This composition depicts a man with an imposing basket filled with fruits on his head. The figure is shown in profile, amid a vegetal environment treated in a succession of shapes and color touches. The construction of the work rests on large flat areas and geometric fragments that structure the clothing, the silhouette, and the landscape. Yellows, oranges, reds and ochres dominate the composition and are balanced by greens, blues, and earthy tones. This contrast between warm and cool colors gives the work its particularly vibrant character. The basket of fruit constitutes the strong point of the composition. Beyond its narrative function, the fruit holds an important place in Benharrouche's imagination and can be associated with notions of abundance, life, transmission and spirituality. This symbolic dimension aligns with the artist's interest in spiritual themes and the texts of the Jewish tradition. The treatment of the face and body, deliberately simplified, along with the defined contours and the fragmentation of the surfaces, gives the scene an aesthetic close to certain Cubist explorations, while not constituting a Cubist work in the historical sense of the movement. Benharrouche develops rather a personal contemporary figuration, nourished in particular by Chagall, Picasso and Miró. Born in Israel in 1961, Benharrouche arrived in Nice in 1974 and pursued his artistic training at the Beaux-Arts. After several years devoted to teaching and artistic practice in France, he returned to Israel in 1993. His work is deeply tied to light, spirituality, history, and the landscapes of his homeland.
