Y marie - L’escale

L’Escale is an original oil-on-canvas work by YMarie created in 2020, depicting a maritime landscape bathed in light and serenity. The composition centers on a small boat placed at the water’s edge, which serves as the focal point of the scene. The eye is then guided toward the horizon through successive planes: the stone wall, the flowering vegetation, the shore, and then the expanse of the sea. This construction gives the work a beautiful sense of depth while preserving the intimate character of its format. The palette rests on a subtle dialogue between the blues of the sky, the sea, and the boat, and the warmer tones of stone, earth, and vegetation. The red and orange floral touches add bursts of color that energize the composition and reinforce its luminous quality. The handling of matter and light testifies to a modern figurative sensibility, nurtured by various Impressionist and post-Impressionist traditions. The artist emphasizes the relationships between color, light, and atmosphere in order to convey a sense of place and moment rather than a strictly photographic representation. YMarie’s practice is deliberately plural. She explores landscape, seascapes, portraiture, as well as modern and contemporary painting. Her world draws on various references from art history, including figurative tradition, Impressionism, and modern painting. Marcel Hauth is among the influences that nourished her sensitivity, particularly for his approach to landscape and light. Yet YMarie seeks to develop a personal pictorial language, evolving her approach according to subjects, research, and periods. This diversity allows her work to sit at the crossroads of pictorial tradition and contemporary expression. The work is presented in a classical-style gilded wooden frame, whose elegance reinforces the presence of the canvas. The dialogue between this traditional frame and a work created in 2020 creates an interesting contrast between artistic heritage and contemporary creation.
