Wooden mask - Lega - DR Congo (No reserve price)

Wooden mask – Lega – DR Congo This wooden mask is attributed to the artistic tradition of the Lega, a people established mainly in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Lega masks are notably associated with Bwami, an initiatory institution that plays an essential role in the transmission of values, teachings and knowledge within society. The stylization of features, the sobriety of the volumes, and the workmanship in wood testify to the particular aesthetic of Lega art. By its graphic strength and its sculptural character, this piece naturally fits into a collection of African art or into a contemporary interior. It creates a harmonious dialogue between Lega artistic heritage and a contemporary aesthetic, while constituting a singular collectible piece for connoisseurs of African art.
