Winterhalder & Hoffmeier, Schwarzenbach, a mahogany quarter-striking mantle clock the eight-day duration movement striking the hours on a gong and the ting-tang quarters on two gongs with the backplate stamped for the maker W&H, Sc., 2, the round convex silvered dial having black Arabic numerals and blued-steel hands, the curved-top mahogany case with brass edged inset panels and standing on brass bracket feet, height 36cm. Note: The origins of Winterhalder & Hofmeier stretch back to 1810 when Thomas Winterhalder established Winterhalder Uhrenfabrik. His grandson Anton Winterhalder (born 1838) was in charge of the business in Schwarzenbach in Germany when he entered into partnership with Johannes Hofmeier (1802-1876) in 1850 to form Winterhalder & Hofmeier.
