William Moore (NC), Abstract Ceramic Figural Head on Pedestal

Fired and glazed stoneware, unsigned. 19 x 8 x 8 1/9 in. Acquired directly from the artist William Moore may describe his sculptural work in marble, ceramic, stone, wood, and bronze as creations depicting elements ranging from the sublime to the hilarious, but his level of craft exceeds expectations just as his choice of material quality rebukes whimsical commentary. His blend of an obviously crisp, intimate familiarity with human form into impossible contortions of angular, stolid materials, mimics the natural forces Earth spent creating the elements. Shown nationally and internationally, William Moore’s work graces private and public collections with classic elegance and enduring permanence. Works placed in the Triangle region of North Carolina include Duke University Chapel, Progress Energy corporate headquarters, SAS Corporation, Glaxco Wellcome, the city of Cary, NC, and numerous churches and synagogues. Good estate condition.
