Willem Roelofs (1822-1897) - Landschap

Beautiful landscape by Willem Roelofs (1822–1897), one of the most important Dutch landscape painters of the 19th century and a leading representative of the Hague School. The painting shows a serene Dutch landscape with an open meadow, characteristic trees and a rural fence under a cloudy sky. The subtle handling of light, natural color tones and loose, decisive brushwork give the work a particularly atmospheric character. The composition is characteristic of Roelofs’ attention to the Dutch landscape, in which light, space and mood are central.
