Whitewright, Texas. $10 1902 Red Seal. Fr. 613. Planters NB. Charter #6915. PCGS Banknote Very Fine 20. Issued in the years that immediately followed the organization of the issuing bank in 1903. This evenly circulated note represents one of only two survivors for a type that owes its end to the passage of the Aldrich-Vreeland legislation in 1908 on the Planters National Bank of Whitewright (Charter# 6915) which ultimately fell to liquidation at the proverbial hands of the First National Bank (Charter# 4692) in 1932. That said, bidders have not had the opportunity to contest any of the two survivors at auction since 2015 and this example which features the penned signatures of Cashier Guy Hamilton and (Vice) President Daniel Scott McMillin offers much to be considered. From a distinct red-blue Treasury overprint to the innate desirability of this short-lived type, this note has all the makings of an "exceptional" note bound to distinguish a collection of Texas Nationals. Estimate: $1,500 - $2,500. Provenance: From the Jack Copeland Currency Collection, Part IV. Click here for certification details from PCGS Banknote.
