BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES AND CRITICISM ABOUT THE ARTIST Walter Piacesi (Ascoli Piceno, 1929) is a renowned Italian painter, draftsman and sculptor, considered one of the leading figures in graphic art and figurative art of the postwar period. Linked to the great Italian figurative tradition, he has been able to depict with an ironic, poetic, and at times melancholic gaze the society of his time, immortalizing in his works scenes of daily life, intimate female figures, clerics, military personnel, and characteristic characters. His mastery of graphic techniques, from drawing to etching, is absolute and was refined and transmitted also thanks to his long tenure as head of the Chair of Techniques of Printmaking at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. Through a lean, nervous, and incredibly expressive line, Piacesi succeeds in giving his subjects deep psychological depth. Over his long and prolific career, he has organized countless solo exhibitions in Italy and abroad, earning prestigious critical recognition and strengthening the presence of his works in important public and private collections.
