Wall sconce (2) - Walnut - Baroque style, late 19th century

Pair of carved and gilded wooden wall sconces, Italy, late 1800s Elegant pair of wall sconces in carved and leaf-gilded wood, Italian manufacture from the late nineteenth century, in Neobaroque style. Each sconce is carved all around with rich acanthus leaves and scrollwork, culminating in a fan-shaped shell at the top and a stylized flower at the base. In the center, a turned baluster arm, with a plinth and fluted shaft, supports the light, wired but not functioning. The gilding retains a beautiful antique patina; one sconce is in excellent condition while the other needs re-gilding in several spots. Equipped with electrical connection (wiring to be checked and brought up to current standards before use). On the back are the original iron mounting supports.
