Toutes les enchères / Ethnographie / Vivid Polychromatic Australian Mookaite Sphere - Natural...
Mookaite: Silicified Jasper with Red, Yellow, and Violet Motifs — This specimen features a meticulously polished sphere of Mookaite Jasper, a silicified variety of radiolarian silica, geologically classified as chalcedony. Its formation is linked to the accumulation of marine radiolarian skeletons in sedimentary environments, subsequently subjected to diagenesis and silicification. Mookaite is valued for its microcrystalline quartz composition, which grants remarkable hardness and an exceptionally glossy finish. Visual analysis reveals a chromatic range extraordinarily rich and varied. Predominant are deep burgundy red and purple tones, interspersed with bold patches of bright ochre yellow and creamy-white sections. These colors blend into fluid, layered patterns, with subtle darker veins tracing intricate pseudobrecciate formations, highlighting the complex mineralogical interactions that occurred during its genesis. The polishing further elevates color saturation and the depth of the motifs. The geological origin of this material is undeniably Western Australia, where Mookaite is mined in specific deposits, particularly in Mooka Creek, from which it takes its name. Its formation context is typical of ancient shallow marine basins, where silica-rich sediments consolidated and transformed through complex geological processes, often influenced by mineral-rich groundwater that imparted the characteristic colorations. From an aesthetic standpoint, this piece is a superb expression of natural art. The sphere’s symmetry enhances the beauty of the internal motifs, allowing the viewer to fully appreciate the distribution and harmony of the colors from every angle. The distinctive markings and the alternation of translucent and opaque layers create a sense of depth and three-dimensionality that is rare to find in specimens of such perfection. The condition is excellent, with the surface free of significant imperfections or scratches that would compromise its luster. The material’s density and compactness ensure notable stability, making it a durable piece. The sphere does not require external supports if placed on a flat base, but can be displayed on a supporting ring for greater visual stability. This Mookaite Jasper specimen is a high-value collectible, not only for its intrinsic aesthetics and flawless finish but also for its geological representativeness. It stands out for the vibrancy of its colors and the complexity of its designs, comparable to the finest specimens found in prestigious mineralogical collections and lapidary art galleries. A significant addition for any collector of polished minerals or stone art objects.
