Vintage Platinum Ring with Colombian Emerald & Diamonds, c. 1975

What jewellery lover hasn't found that a fine piece of jewellery can brighten up a dreary day? At least that's how we feel - the radiance of a well-cut diamond, the intense sparkle of a fine ruby or the deep blue of a sapphire brings light into a gloomy mood. That's how we felt when we looked at this ring. The design rises high above the finger. A magnificent emerald takes centre stage. Diamonds in platinum are set around the ring, a larger one close to the centre and a smaller one further out so that they look like white petals with their settings. Further, smaller emeralds complete the design at the bottom. The first-class emerald in the centre is the showpiece and highlight of the ring. Weighing around 1.90 ct, it is present yet not too large. Under a magnifying glass, the stone, which is very clear and pure for an emerald, shows fine crystal inclusions and delicate growth features in its centre, which identify the stone as a natural emerald. They are also known as "jardin" (French for "garden"). In the case of the main stone, they also prove that the stone comes from Colombia, the classic origin of the best emeralds. The design reminded us of the Harlequin's dress from the Italian Commedia dell'arte. Or of green Jell-O with dots of whipped cream... Either way, the unusual, precious ring is a joy to behold. A forked ring shank holds the ring head securely without weighing it down. The ring is a unique hand-forged piece from the 1970s and came to us from Hanover. It comes with a detailed certificate from Idar-Oberstein, which describes and confirms the quality of all materials.
