Hardly any other jewellery evokes carefree moments on the sunny Mediterranean quite like coral jewellery. For even though there are numerous different species of coral around the globe that have been and continue to be crafted into jewellery, it is above all the intense red Mediterranean coral that has shaped our perception of this special natural material. Germany seems to have a very special relationship with these treasures of the sea. Travelers during the economic miracle era, in particular, brought coral jewelry back from Italy to the cooler north, where it could henceforth serve as a memento of a wonderful summer vacation. The necklace featured here is a product of that era. It features three rows of coral, with sizes graduated from largest to smallest, in a rich red hue with only slight natural variations in color. The necklace is designed to sit close to the neck, making it equally suitable for wearing with a blouse or a turtleneck sweater. We discovered this necklace here in Berlin. The hallmark on the clasp tells us that the necklace was most likely made in Germany.
