Vintage Brooch with Emerald & Diamonds in Gold, Italy c. 1985

This brooch is in the shape of a flower and made from high-carat yellow gold. The stems and petals are richly set with a total of around 0.81 carats of white diamonds, while a green emerald shines in the center of the flower. The warm color combination is typical of jewellery from the last third of the 20th century. Previously, diamonds had only rarely been set in yellow gold; white metals such as silver or platinum were much more popular. Now, however, new paths were taken and the contrast of yellow gold and diamond was ventured, usually combined with other intensely colored gemstones: In this respect, the brooch is a typical child of its time. Only the pin and the setting of the emerald are made of white gold. The hallmark on the brooch reveals that it was made in Italy - quite fitting for this colorful highlight full of joie de vivre.
