Initially the company produced utilitarian objects, but under the leadership of his sons, Auguste and Antonin Daum, it rapidly developed into a thriving Art Nouveau movement. By the end of the 19th century, Daum had grown into one of France’s leading artistic glassmakers, known for its cameo glass, acid-etched decoration, and naturalistic designs inspired by flora and fauna. Collaborating with artists of the École de Nancy, including Émile Gallé, Daum developed a distinctive style characterized by layered glass, intricate workmanship, and subtle coloring. In the early 20th century the firm adapted to the emerging Art Deco aesthetic and produced leaner, more geometric designs while maintaining exceptional technical standards. A key innovation came with the development of pâte de verre, a technique that Daum updated and refined to create sculptural works with soft, textured surfaces and rich transparency.
