About the artist: Victor Vasarely: (1906-1997) French painter of Hungarian origin recognized as the father of optical art, or "op-art." His works are exhibited in the world's leading museums, including: the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art (Japan); the Fondation Vasarely; the Centre Pompidou (France); the Walker Art Center, the MOMA, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim, New York (USA); Das Museum Folkwang (Germany); the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (Portugal); the Kröller-Müller Museum (Netherlands); the Queensland Art Gallery (Australia); the Nykytaiteen museo Kiasma (Finland); the Horsens Kunstmuseum (Denmark); the Peggy Guggenheim Collection (Italy); the National Gallery of Scotland, the Tate Collection (United Kingdom); the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein (Liechtenstein); the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (Argentina); the Museum of Contemporary Art Skopje (FYROM); the Henie Onstad Museum (Norway); the Victor Vasarely Museum, Pécs (Hungary); the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo, Caracas (Venezuela); the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Montréal (Canada)... About the work: Vasarely’s perfectionism imposes an absolute quality standard that only at that time the presses of Basel printing houses could satisfy. Thus, between 1971 and 1978, Editions Du Griffon, in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, were entrusted by Victor Vasarely with the realization, distribution and dissemination of 19 albums and 12 serigraphs comprising the florilegium of his works. This unique print comes from a special edition titled "Ondulatoires" which was conceived and supervised by Victor Vasarely himself, and with the same concern for quality, Editions du Griffon paid exceptional attention to these series of albums printed in the 1970s, identifiable by the copyright on the back of the prints.
