VEX (XXI) - Trump vs Biden: In Democracy We Trust

VEX – US$1: "Trump vs Biden: In Democracy We Trust!" What if "In God We Trust" suddenly becomes "In Democracy We Trust"? In this sharp money-art tweet from Amsterdam-based urban artist VEX, Donald Trump and Joe Biden shake hands on an authentic American one-dollar banknote — literally the smallest stage for the biggest political clash of our time. VEX is known for "kidnapping" banknotes from all countries for his art, with a special fondness for "the root of all evil": the almighty US$. He designs and prints his own money, with the seriousness of a bank engraver and the wink of a street artist. This places him in a rich tradition of artists who used the banknote as a canvas — from Andy Warhol, who elevated dollar signs and real banknotes to art, to contemporary money-art. The immediacy of current events makes this work even spicier: the banknote as the battleground of American democracy has never been more topical. A provocative collectible at the crossroads of pop art, political satire, and banknote culture.
