Vanity box 鏡台 (kyôdai) complete with hand mirror - Wood

An elegant black-lacquered Japanese dressing stand 鏡台 (kyôdai), richly decorated in gold hiramaki-e 平蒔絵. Its surfaces are scattered with circular, crest-like designs depicting cranes, butterflies, bamboo, pine, plum and other motifs. This type of high quality cosmetic set is known to be used by the aristocracy. The square cabinet rests on low feet and contains two drawers with engraved metal ring pulls. Above it, a pair of slender uprights holds a hand mirror 柄鏡 (e-kagami) between scrolling supports. The mirror is accompanied by a round lacquered mirror box 鏡箱 (kagami-bako). Considering its age, the set is in very good condition, with some wear along the edges and some losses to the lacquer. Please examine the photographs for a clear condition reference.
