TWO NAMJI DOLLS

Ca. 20th century AD. > A group of two Namji dolls. Each doll is constructed around a small wooden core and lavishly decorated with numerous strands of brightly coloured trade beads wrapped around the neck, torso, and waist. The beadwork forms layered garments composed of red, yellow, blue, and multicoloured strands arranged in dense loops across the body. Clusters of shells hang from the lower sections, creating a skirt-like fringe that partially conceals the base of the figures. The elongated necks are tightly wrapped with stacked bead collars, while the heads are topped with fibre and bead elements forming stylized headdresses. > > Size: 205-235mm x 105-115mm; Weight: 1.76kg > Provenance: Prince Collection, 1990s-2014; ex Caravan Tribal Arts. 24 Nov. 2009 (Group Lot). > >
