Top-quality amethyst druzy on a natural base Uruguay- 775.39 g

Rare gemstone quality, Amethyst Geode sculpture. Amethyst geodes from Uruguay are mined from the same rock formation as their relatives just north of the border in southern Brazil and are of volcanic origin. However, Uruguayan amethyst can usually be distinguished from its Brazilian relatives by its typically paler color, and in the case of higher-quality amethyst, the color of Uruguayan amethyst is overall darker. Many of the Uruguayan amethyst geodes also contain agate in their shells. Most of the amethyst from Uruguay is mined in open pit, and the geodes or crystals must undergo a series of washing or drying cycles to remove the stubborn mud so that the amethyst crystals can be exposed. Due to the very hard basalt matrix in which the geodes formed, and the tendency for the geode to crack either naturally or during mining, it is difficult to obtain whole geodes from this area, so usually one half of an amethyst, a partial piece, or a plate is most commonly seen.
