Cymbiola laminusa is a marine gastropod shell in the family Volutidae. At a size of 101 mm, this is a stately and well‑developed specimen for this species. The GEM (Gem Quality) rating is the highest quality grade in shell collecting and stands for an absolutely flawless shell with no visible damage or growth defects. Overview of scientific data Scientific name: Cymbiola laminusa Original describers (authors): Poppe, Tagaro & Bail Year of description: 2011 (published in the journal Visaya) Origin (type locality): Philippines, more precisely around Laminusa Island (Mindanao region). Hence the species name laminusa. Habitat: Subtropical to tropical seawater. It is usually harvested by local fishermen using crab nets (shrimp nets) from depths of about 40 to 100 meters. Biological characteristics of the snail Category: Sea snail (marine gastropod). Coloration: Typically shows a pattern in dark olive green, though very rare color variants exist up to almost black. Lifestyle: Like almost all predatory volutes, it lives on sandy or muddy seafloors. It buries itself in the substrate and primarily hunts other smaller snails or clams there.
