“TO TWO FRIENDS” [HADOL, Paul, attributed to]. To Two Friends. Paris, Imp. Coulbœuf, [1870–1871]. Colored satirical lithograph depicting William I violently seizing a caricatured figure, likely a German advisor or officer, with the caption: “William — Ah! Scoundrel! You told me there were no more soldiers in France!!!! ” French caricature of the 1870 war, mocking hopes for a swift German victory and highlighting the continued French military resistance. Sold by Duclaux, 21 Place du Château-d’Eau, and on consignment at Madre, 20 Rue du Croissant. Hand-colored. Paper slightly browned, with a few foxing spots and minor marginal marks.
