“TO THE TWO FRIENDS” [HADOL, Paul, attributed to]. To the Two Friends. Paris, Imp. Coulbœuf, [1870–1871]. A satirical black-and-white lithograph depicting William I violently seizing a caricatured figure. Caption at the bottom: “William — Ah! Scoundrel! You told me there were no more soldiers in France!!!! ” A caricature relating to the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, playing on German expectations of a quick victory and the continued French resistance. Paper slightly browned, with a few small foxing spots and marginal creases.
