Hergé – The Adventures of Tintin - Reporter for the “Petit Vingtième” In the Land of the Soviets - Brussels, Les Éditions du Petit “Vingtième”, 1930 – Sixth Thousand. Early original album edition of the first Tintin adventure, published in 1930 by Les Éditions du Petit “Vingtième.” Uncolored edition with the characteristic printed hollow cardboard cover, blue (denim-colored) cloth spine and the blanco back cover distinctive for this edition. The album comes from an estate and has been carefully stored and protected for many years. Given its age and the fragile nature of this early edition, it is in a fair to reasonable condition. In the past, restoration work was carried out on the front cover, spine/band and various parts of the inner pages. These restorations are visible. The restoration used original materials corresponding to the album, with the aim of preserving as much as possible the original structure and the historical character of the album. The inner pages are complete and intact. At pages 102–103 a sheet/section has come loose (see photos). Further, the album shows normal signs of aging such as paper yellowing, wear marks and local damage. Extra specifications: • Title page: The correct model, with the original inscription “SIXIÈME MILLE,” corresponding to the year of issue of 1930. The inscription “SIXIÈME MILLE” denotes the print run: 6th thousand of the first edition from 1930 • binding: Ivory-colored printed front cover, blue cloth spine, completely blanco back cover and white fly-leaves. Size approximately 316 × 245 mm, with 138 black-and-white plates, numbered 1–137, with the first plate unnumbered • Pages 96–97: The numbering and content are consistent with the original album edition, in which one plate from the first newspaper publication of this album in ‘Les Éditions du Petit “Vingtième”’ was omitted. This explains the designation 99/98bis and the total of 138 plates • Last page: After the final comic page, the back fly-leaf follows directly. There is no colophon or other publisher’s statement • Paper and construction: The wear, fiber structure of the cover paper, the old cloth and the aging of gatherings and folds together form a coherent overall vintage appearance — — — — — Photography documentation: The extensive photo documentation is part of the lot description and provides a carefully detailed overview of the execution, condition, features and restoration measures of this special copy.
