The lot consists of 4 natural geodes cut and polished, magnificently housed inside an intriguing cylindrical box inspired by Eastern design. The case was crafted entirely by hand, combining bamboo structural elements with wicker woven over a bark (or thick treated paper) lining finished with a dark natural lacquer, which gives it a splendid lived-in, organic, and mysterious patina. When the chest is closed, it presents as a sober and fascinating object of high ethnic artisanal craftsmanship; once opened, it reveals the chromatic-crystal explosion of the minerals inside, creating a perfect "Curiosité" effect. Each geode is a unique geological artwork formed over millions of years. Externally they show their rough rock matrix, while the front sections reveal a hypnotic display: - Symphony of Agate: Beautiful natural concentric bands in the tones of smoke gray, milky white, pale pink, and honey frame the walls. - Crystalline Cathedrals: The heart of each geode opens into a cavity (druse) covered by a myriad of sparkling micro-crystals of quartz and amethyst that catch natural light. The geodes formed between 100 and 130 million years ago (during the Cretaceous period), due to volcanic activity that affected the large basalt formations of South America. The color diversity of the four elements (two leaning toward warm tones and two toward the cool geometric contrasts of gray-blue) makes the set extremely balanced and dramatic to display. The geode cutting surfaces are mirror-polished to enhance the agate bands, while the inner druses are intact and crystal clear. The box presents a beautiful patina of time that enhances its rustic and authentic character, with no structural defects.
