Theatre - Opera/Operetta viewer fitted with pearls sold...

ANTIQUE COLLECTIBLE OBJECT. Antique Theater/Opera or Operetta viewer, in good condition, finished with a mother-of-pearl knob. Also provided with a mother-of-pearl knob nameplate of the company where this viewer was sold, namely H.A. Reens in Rotterdam. The dimensions of the viewer are 3.5 x 10.5 x 9 cm. Fully opened. When closed, the depth of the viewer is 7 cm. The operation is, in my opinion, good, though I am not a connoisseur. Estimated age about 100 years (period 1920). The mother-of-pearl knob is intact. We refer to the photos that form a complete unit with the description. See also the nameplate of the mother-of-pearl knob in the left viewing section of the viewer. We also refer to the text of the Reens company – Rotterdam. We pack carefully and ship with track and trace; all our objects are insured. Antique Collectible object with a historical background. Text / information about where this viewer was sold H.A. Reens Rotterdam The firm H.A. Reens is a historical name in Rotterdam's history, inseparably linked with early optics, photography, and fine mechanics. As a prominent optician and camera shop in the heart of Rotterdam, the company enjoyed great renown in the early twentieth century. The business combined high-quality retail with technological innovation. H.A. Reens was not only a specialist in glasses and cameras but also an innovative producer of technical equipment such as radio receivers. With these advanced devices, the company drew much attention at the leading Nenijto exhibition of 1928 in Rotterdam. Originally the shop was located at Hoogstraat 320, later moving to an architecturally striking building at Hoogstraat 342 and Steiger 8. This modern branch was in the twenties one of the most progressive shops in Rotterdam’s inner city. During the devastating bombing of Rotterdam in May 1940, this monumental building was completely engulfed in flames. The resilience of the company proved substantial, however. By October 1940 H.A. Reens reopened the optician’s shop in one of the well-known wooden emergency shops on the Coolsingel, directly in front of the main post office. In doing so, the shop contributed significantly to the reconstruction and daily life in post-war Rotterdam.
