The Welsh material includes Conwy, Llandudno and the Welsh Highland Railway, while the transport subjects throughout the album include steam locomotives, railway stations and viaducts, ferries, steamers and working harbour craft. Among the named vessels and locomotives are the steamers King George V and Queen Alexandra, the locomotive captioned King Richard I, and photographs connected with the Waterford Mail Train. Several leaves record organised group outings, variously captioned “C.C.S.S. Guild Outing” and similar, suggesting that a number of the journeys were undertaken as part of an organised social or institutional group. These are accompanied by portraits, group photographs and informal studies of fellow travellers, the album also contains photographs of Birmingham floodlighting in 1931, architectural studies, coastal panoramas, landscape views, wildlife including deer at Cowdray Park, and a number of more experimental photographs employing unusual viewpoints, oval masking and night photography
