THE ACCURSED ONE KLENCK, Paul. The Accursed One. Paris, Imp. Talons, Marché Saint-Honoré, 19; distributed by Madre, Rue du Croissant, [1870–1871]. Partially colored satirical lithograph. Napoleon III appears beneath an armed female allegory, likely representing France, while an eagle swoops down on him. On the left are listed several key events of his reign: “1852—Mentana—Ricamarie—Aubin—Sedan,” representing the grievances that led to his downfall. Signed P. Klenck on the plate. An important anti-Bonapartist caricature that serves as a veritable graphic indictment of the Second Empire. Marked horizontal fold, a few creases and small marginal tears; paper slightly browned.
