Exceptionally Rare 1912 Anhwei 5 Dollars (t) CHINA--MILITARY. Chinese Republican Military Bank. 5 Dollars, 1912. P-S3842. S/M#C277-12. PMG Choice Fine 15. Anhwei. The province declared its independence from Qing in November 1911. To alleviate the shortage of provincial treasury funds, the then military governor, Sun Yuyun, restructured the Anhwei Yu Huan Bank into the Chinese Republican Military Bank to issue banknotes denominated in copper coins and silver dollars. Two seal varieties are known, one for Sun Yuyun and one for Bai Wenwei. No copper-coin notes are known today, but silver notes of $1 and $5 are known. The former is rare, and the latter is exceptionally rare, as demonstrated by the fact that this is the ONLY EXAMPLE graded by PMG to date.
