Swan, Mabie Todd & Co - Swan 142/51 Self-Filling - Fountain pen

The fountain pen is in overall good condition, boasting a very attractive aesthetic thanks to its striking marbled orange-toned celluloid, which preserves a notable shine and a highly striking presence. The body shows normal signs of use and aging, with light surface marks and small traces typical of a piece almost a century old. There is some fading of the barrel engraving, something common in these models, but still legible and coherent with its age. The cap correctly preserves its shape and structure, with the characteristic decorative rings in good condition. The original Swan clip shows wear on the plating, especially visible in the areas of greatest friction, without affecting its functionality. The lever-fill system has been inspected and is operable, functioning correctly as is usual in pieces prepared for use. The original Swan nib in 14K gold is in good condition, with superficial wear consistent with use, maintaining its structural integrity and offering functional writing. The ebonite feed responds correctly. It is worth noting the presence of a personalized engraving on the body, which, while adding historical character to the piece, reduces its value compared to unengraved specimens. Overall, this is a well-preserved, functional pen representative of Mabie Todd quality, ideal for both use and collection. Conservation recommendations It is recommended to use high-quality fountain pen inks, avoiding pigmented inks or those with high chemical content. If not used for an extended period, rinse with warm water, dry completely before storing, and keep in a dry place, away from direct light and extreme temperatures. Operate the filling system gently to preserve its proper functioning in the long term. It will be sent in a courtesy box for proper preservation. Happy bidding!
