Sustainable Platinum Ring with Demantoid & Diamonds, From Our Workshop

At the center of this ring from our workshop is a natural demantoid. Demantoids belong to the garnet group and are considered its most precious members. These precious stones were first discovered in the Urals in the mid-19th century and were initially known as “Ural emeralds.” Not only did Fabergé create small works of art featuring this vibrant green stone, but other European jewelers followed suit as well. In this ring, the demantoid is surrounded by eleven diamonds, while two additional diamonds elegantly transition into the ring band. All stones are set in platinum. The design draws inspiration from the classic “entourage” rings of the Belle Époque, when colored gemstones framed by diamonds were among the most popular ring styles of all time. In the 19th century, demantoids were mined exclusively in the Urals. It was only more recently that demantoids were discovered in locations outside of Russia. The demantoid used here most likely originates from Namibia. It weighs 1.13 carats and comes from an old stock of a goldsmith. We have set it in a piece of jewellery for the first time. It is accompanied by an appraisal report from 2006; a current appraisal of the entire ring, 20 years later, values it significantly higher. The diamonds also tell their own story. The diamonds, weighing a total of 0.65 carats, are vintage stones that we have repurposed. Likewise, the platinum used comes from older pieces of jewellery that could no longer be restored. Thus, the ring combines historical materials with a rare gemstone and a contemporary concept of sustainability and the reuse of precious resources.
