Georges Charaire (1914-2001) was a French typographer, printer, publisher and poet, deeply rooted in the Montmartre artistic milieu. Also a painter, he printed this work on his own presses at Château des Brouillards in September 1950. This book sits within his artisanal bibliophilic production, in which he paired his poems with the works of his painter and engraver friends. André Dignimont (1891-1965), Robert Naly (1900-1983), Jean-Gabriel Daragnès (1886-1950), Edmond Heuzé (1884-1967) and Georges Charaire (1914-2001) form the collective of illustrators for this volume. A major figure of Montmartre life, Dignimont was renowned for his watercolors and illustrations of precious literary works. Daragnès and Heuzé are among the great French painters and engravers of the first half of the 20th century. This is a poetic and artistic collection offering literary and graphical variations around the myth of Daphne.
