Some pieces of jewellery do not rely on delicate sophistication, but rather on their commanding presence. This striking anchor chain from the 1980s, crafted from high-karat yellow gold, undoubtedly falls into that category. Weighing 190.5 grams, it embodies the self-assured sense of luxury that defined the decade: gold was once again celebrated on a grand scale. Bold bangles, heavy chains, and striking pieces of jewellery made a confident statement. Jewellery was meant to make a statement. This chain consists of bold, oval anchor links whose clean lines eschew any superfluous ornamentation. It is precisely this minimalism that gives it its impact. The warm glow of the gold, the generous proportions, and the remarkable weight combine to create a piece of jewellery with an impressive impact. Despite its mass, the necklace appears balanced and elegant. Its provenance from a significant South German collection of high-quality jewellery adds to its appeal. According to the previous owner, the necklace was purchased about 40 years ago from Gerhard Lährm in Salzburg. However, it was actually made outside of Austria; it bears an indistinct manufacturer’s mark “Bo” and Austrian import marks. A powerful yet timeless piece of jewellery whose value lies not only in the precious metal but also in its aesthetic appeal.
