This exceptional necklace consists of 165 cream-white Akoya cultured pearls, all of a uniform size ranging from approximately 8.9 to 9.5 mm. The pearls are graded as top-quality. They all possess a fantastic luster, a very good, round shape, and very few surface imperfections. It is primarily the diameter of the pearls that makes them so valuable: Akoya pearls with a diameter greater than 9 mm are extremely rare. But the length of the necklace is also spectacular: the pearls form a strand measuring approximately 165 centimeters. The necklace can be worn long and casually draped, wrapped several times around the neck, or draped in various lengths. In this way, the necklace embodies that playful style of pearl jewelry that has been repeatedly reinterpreted since the interwar period. The intricately crafted clasp made of high-karat white gold adds a precious accent. It is set with 60 brilliant-cut diamonds totaling approximately 4.80 carats, all perfectly graded and shining in rare white (F-G). In between, 18 natural sapphires cut into square shapes—totaling approximately 0.77 carats—form a blue band. On the left and right, blue beads echo the color scheme. For a necklace of this length, the precious clasp is more than just a functional detail. Depending on how it is draped, it can also be worn in full view. This creates a charming interplay between the perfect simplicity of the pearls and the sparkling luxury of white gold, sapphires, and diamonds. A small hallmark on the clasp identifies the piece of jewellery as part of the Bucherer jewelry collection, where it was purchased in the mid-1980s. With its 165 pearls, its unusual length, and the clasp richly set with gemstones, this long necklace follows in the tradition of those extra-long pearl necklaces that became a symbol of elegance during the Art Deco era. It is both classic and modern; perhaps that is the appeal of a pearl necklace of this length and quality.
