Conditionally Rare Final Victorian Date STRAITS SETTLEMENTS. 50 Cents, 1901. London Mint. Victoria. NGC MS-64. KM-13; Prid-29. A true prize within the Straits Settlements series as a near-Gem Victorian 50 Cents; this is easily the most elusive and demanded denomination of the series, as well as the largest struck until the reign of Edward VII. The present piece is the sole finest of the date certified by NGC, with one certified finer by PCGS, and would appear to be the first Mint State example of the date we have yet had the pleasure of offering. The portrait of Victoria is well-struck, with sharp detail to the hair and face, and lovely cartwheel luster pervades the surfaces. A few scattered marks appear in line with the assigned grade, and the color is mostly silvery-white with touches of champagne toning here and there. VERY RARE in this wondrous state of preservation.
