Stephanoceras Ammonite XXL - Fossil skeleton - 25 cm

An exceptionally large and impressive Stephanoceras ammonite from the Jurassic accompanies the call for bidding. With its imposing size, distinctive shell structure, and the characteristic spiral coiling, this fossil is a fascinating testament to the ancient sea world. Particularly impressive is the strongly ornamented shell with its clearly pronounced ribs that extend from the inner whorl to the broad outer edge. The distinctive sculpture gives the ammonite a plastically tangible appearance and superbly showcases Stephanoceras’ typical, robust shell shape. The warm, earthy brown and ochre tones, along with the naturally appearing mineral surface, accentuate the authentic character of this extraordinary fossil. Stephanoceras belongs to the ammonites, an extinct group of marine cephalopods that played a significant role in marine ecosystems during the Mesozoic Era. The genus lived in the Middle Jurassic, especially during the Bajocian, about 170 to 168 million years ago. Their characteristically ribbed shells make these ammonites sought-after collectibles among fossil enthusiasts. Thanks to its imposing size and the striking surface texture, this XXL specimen is excellently suited as a decorative focal point in a fossil collection, a natural history display, or as an extraordinary showpiece.
