Silver coin of 40 Céntimos de Escudo minted at the Madrid mint during the reign of Isabel II, belonging to the monetary system preceding the definitive introduction of the peseta. The obverse shows the queen’s portrait looking right, rendered in Neoclassical style with finely modeled features and hair tied up adorned with a laurel crown. The reverse presents the crowned shield of Spain quartered with castles and lions, accompanied by the denomination and the royal legend. The specimen preserves a notable degree of detail in the main elements, with very light wear on the highest points of the relief, in line with the AU58 grade. The fields retain abundant original luster and an attractive uniform silver tone, with small, insignificant circulation marks. This is a historically relevant piece from the late years of Isabel II’s reign, issued during a period of profound political and monetary transformations in Spain.
