Songye-Luba - DR Congo

Kifewe mask, Songye-Luba. Used in dances connecting with the forces of nature to appease storms or promote agriculture, and to prevent droughts or pests. Excellent serrated carving in semi-hard wood. It is sold with a stand, but the stand shown in the photographs was used only to take them; the included stand is better and special for the mask. Height: 50 cm.
