Key features of Solingen silver-plated cutlery • Silver content (hallmarks): Silver-plated cutlery from this region can be recognized by stamps such as 90 or 100. This number indicates how many grams of silver were used to plate a standard set of 24 cutlery pieces (usually 12 forks and 12 spoons). The higher the number, the thicker the silver layer and the slower the wear of the cutlery. • Knives with "Rostfrei": The blades of the knives almost always bear the stamp Solingen Rostfrei (stainless steel), because a blade made of pure silver is too soft to cut with. The handle, in this case, is silver-plated.
