Cartier – Two lapel buttons ‘Scallop Shell’ in vermeil and ruby – circa 1950 Rare set of two Cartier Paris lapel buttons made for the Shell company, featuring a scallop shell, the traditional symbol of the pilgrimage to Saint-James-de-Compostelle. Made in vermeil (gold-plated silver), they were offered by Shell to its employees to reward their longevity: the first bears the inscription ‘10 ANS’, while the second, ‘15 ANS’, is set with a ruby. This distinction system is documented: 10 years without stone, 15 years with ruby, The two pieces are signed Cartier Paris on the reverse and bear control marks for silver.
