An impressive Ball, Black & Co. coin silver hot water urn, of classical form and substantial proportions executed by Edgar Eoff and George Shepard. The generously rounded ovoid body rises to a broad, stepped shoulder, accented with finely executed beaded borders, and is fitted with elongated loop handles that sweep upward on either side. The urn is surmounted by an elegant removable lid, formed with a tall, slender neck rising from the domed cover and terminating in a beautifully modeled urn-form finial with a spherical knop. The body is fitted with an attractive ornamental silver spigot at the front and raised upon a substantial square pedestal base with four spherical feet. The reverse bears a central engraved monogram. Stamped, to reverse, "Ball, Black & Co. N.York E&S". Accompanied by a copy of an 8 October 1979 appraisal from S. Wyler, Inc., 713 Madison Avenue, New York, NY, prepared for Mr. Roger K. Field, appraising the item for insurance purposes at a present-day fair market value of $2,000. The appraisal describes the item as a "Victorian Sterling Silver Tea or Coffee Urn, square base with beaded border, New York, Ball Black & Co.". Total approx. weight is 51.39 troy oz (gross). From a Kingston, NY estate. Dimensions: item measures approx. 17" in height. Condition: Good, with minor dents/dings and light surface scratches.
