In this travel narrative, Théophile de Ferrière Le Vayer recalls, as the first secretary of the legation sent to Macao at the end of 1843 to conclude a commercial agreement with China and obtain freedom of Christian worship. Led by Lagrené, the mission aimed to obtain the same advantages as the British after the Treaty of Nanking, and led to the Treaty of Whampoa, signed on October 24, 1844.
