Toutes les enchères / Véhicules / Shmidt.Art - Mercedes-Benz - Mercedes-Benz 500 SL Technical Data R107 - 1980s
A premium automotive technical poster dedicated to the 1986 Mercedes-Benz 500 SL (R107) — one of the final and most refined V8 versions of Mercedes-Benz’s long-running R107 luxury roadster. This artwork presents the 500 SL in a clean factory technical-document style, combining precise front, side, rear and overhead views with dimensional references and a detailed representation of its front-mounted M117 V8 engine. The Mercedes-Benz R107 Introduced in 1971, the R107 SL became one of the longest-running model series in Mercedes-Benz history. Its design combined the proportions of a traditional two-seat roadster with the engineering, refinement and build quality expected from Mercedes-Benz’s flagship touring models. Over its exceptionally long production life, the R107 evolved considerably while retaining its recognizable basic shape. The 1986 500 SL The 1986 model belongs to the final facelift generation of the R107. Updates introduced for the later cars included revised exterior details, improved suspension geometry and updated equipment, while the European-market 500 SL continued to occupy the upper end of the range. With its naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8, rear-wheel drive and restrained styling, the 500 SL was conceived primarily as a high-speed grand touring roadster rather than an uncompromising sports car. 5.0-Litre M117 V8 At the heart of the 500 SL is Mercedes-Benz’s M117 90-degree V8. The engine has a displacement of 4973 cm³ and uses Bosch KE-Jetronic fuel injection. In this specification, output is approximately 180 kW / 245 PS at 4750 rpm, with approximately 400 Nm of torque at 3750 rpm. The large-displacement naturally aspirated V8 gives the R107 the relaxed power delivery and substantial torque characteristic of the flagship SL models of the period. Front-Engine Architecture The M117 V8 is mounted longitudinally beneath the long bonnet. The large overhead technical illustration highlights the conventional front-engine, rear-wheel-drive architecture and provides a detailed view of the V8 installation and surrounding engine-bay components. Four-Speed Automatic Transmission Power is transmitted to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. Rather than pursuing the character of a lightweight sports car, the 500 SL combines substantial V8 performance with smooth automatic operation and long-distance touring ability. Classic R107 Proportions The R107 is defined by its long bonnet, compact passenger compartment, relatively short rear deck and strong horizontal body lines. For the later 500 SL, these proportions are complemented by the updated lower body treatment and wheels associated with the final evolution of the R107. Technical Dimensions Wheelbase: 2460 mm Front track: Approximately 1460 mm Rear track: Approximately 1450 mm Overall length: 4390 mm Overall width: 1790 mm Overall height: Approximately 1300 mm These dimensions give the 500 SL its characteristic low and broad roadster stance while preserving the compact wheelbase of the R107 platform. Performance The naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 produces approximately 245 PS and 400 Nm. Top speed is approximately 225 km/h, while 0–100 km/h acceleration is approximately 7.3 seconds. Curb weight is approximately 1540 kg. The result is a car focused less on outright aggression than on effortless V8 performance, stability and high-speed touring. Detailed Technical Composition The artwork includes true front and rear elevations, a large 90-degree side profile and an oversized orthographic top view. The overhead illustration reveals the longitudinally mounted M117 V8 beneath the bonnet while preserving the characteristic proportions of the R107 body. Engine, transmission, weight, dimensional and performance information is arranged along the lower section in the style of period engineering documentation. A period-inspired Mercedes-Benz technical inspection stamp completes the archival presentation. Its technical-document aesthetic is particularly suited to enthusiasts of classic Mercedes-Benz engineering, the SL lineage and naturally aspirated V8 grand tourers. A technical celebration of one of the definitive late-production R107 models — combining timeless Bruno Sacco-era Mercedes-Benz design, a naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 and the relaxed character of a traditional luxury roadster. The poster will be carefully packed for shipping to ensure safe delivery.
