Shigeru Wakayama (Japanese French, b. 1954), Paris & The Seine, Île Saint-Louis

Oil on canvas, signed at lower right, attractively framed. Stretcher size 21 3/4 x 18 1/4 in. Clark Art, Raleigh, North Carolina Shigeru Wakayama studied art history at Meiji University in Tokyo from 1972 to 1976 before moving to France in 1979, where he pursued painting and graphic arts at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He exhibited extensively throughout Europe and Japan, participating in prestigious exhibitions including the Salon d’Automne and Salon des Artistes in Paris. His work earned numerous accolades, including gold medals from the Académie de Lutèce in 1985, the Salon d’Automne in 1989, and the Salon de l’Îe-de-France in 1990, as well as first prize at the Salon National des Beaux-Arts in 1986. Good estate condition.
