Sentimental Vintage Bangle with Diamonds Set in Gold, 2nd Half of

More than 1.70 ct of sparkling diamonds make this bangle shine. The design features a narrow band that wraps around the wrist and crosses in the middle. Three larger diamonds adorn the center of the design. Two are set in high-prong settings at the ends of the band; a third stone is positioned in the center as the focal point. Numerous smaller diamonds flank the stones on the front of the band. This sparkling bangle pays homage to Belle Époque jewellery. Pieces of jewellery featuring the motif shown here were created as bangles, but also as rings, and are known as “Tiara” or “Duchess” pieces of jewellery. They became popular in the 1880s and remained so well into the 20th century. The earlier examples in particular are often, like this bangle, crafted from warm, reddish-shimmering gold, which is very good at complementing the diamonds—all of which have warm tinted colours. We discovered this bangle in Vienna. It was likely crafted in India or Sri Lanka, where jewellery in historical European styles continued to be produced well into the 20th century. Based on the cuts of the diamonds and the details of the craftsmanship—such as the high prong settings of the large diamonds—we believe the bangle was made in the second half of the 20th century, most likely in the 1970s or 1980s.
