Sculpture

Ancient alabaster sculptural group belonging to the Napoleon III period in the second half of the nineteenth century. The work shows two figures finely draped in a tender, affectionate gesture positioned on a rocky base. The adult female figure serves as the visual and structural focal point, while the girl leans against her right side, creating a sinuous line that guides the viewer's eye from bottom to top. The main figure wears a classical-inspired tunic (chiton) cinched under the bust, while with the left hand she lifts the hem of the skirt with a graceful gesture, revealing her advancing left foot. The face is idealized, with symmetric and serene features, framed by hair gathered by a ribbon at the nape. The secondary figure is captured in a dynamic pose of affectionate abandonment toward the maternal figure and is partly wrapped in a thin drapery. Conditions: Excellent.
