Fragments of polychrome wooden religious sculptures – 17th century Set of three ancient fragments of carved wooden religious sculptures with traces of polychromy, including a substantial draped angel fragment and two angel heads, one of which emerges from a decorative background of stylized foliage. These elements very likely come from an old church decor or a Baroque altarpiece. The sculpture, the moving hair, and the traces of polychromy allow dating to the 17th century, possibly early 18th century. Probable origin: Southern Europe, possibly Italy or the Iberian Peninsula. Fragmentary condition, significant wear and gaps in polychromy, old signs of wood-boring insects visible, consistent with the age and nature of these elements.
