Entirely handmade in Murano, this small sculpture unites two souls of Venetian glass: the ruby red of a heart and the transparency of a crystal block full of bubbles. The heart, hot-modeled in solid ruby red transparent glass, has a soft and slightly asymmetrical shape, gracefully tilted, as if resting on its base in balance. The rounded, thicker edges define its profile, while at the center the color becomes deeper; when light passes through, the red brightens with warm tones, up to orange. At the base of the heart, where it is fused to the crystal, the glass reveals a thin golden veil. The base is a cube of crystal glass with a bubbled effect: the glass mass is traversed by a dense cloud of air bubbles, small and large, that catch the light and multiply it into brilliant reflections. It is a Murano signature technique, born in the 1920s, that gives the glass a lively, almost effervescent appearance. The surfaces of the base are smooth but intentionally imperfect, evoking a block of ice. The contrast between the full red of the heart and the sparkling transparency of the base makes the sculpture an elegant and symbolic design object, perfect on a desk, a shelf, or a nightstand.
