Catalogue work: * Michler & Löpsinger, Salvador Dalí. Catalogue Raisonné of Prints, Volume II, reference no. 1052. * Albert Field, The Official Catalog of the Graphic Works of Salvador Dalí, pages 189–200. Description: Extraordinary surrealist composition by Salvador Dalí, part of his monumental graphic interpretation of The Divine Comedy, one of the artist's most important and widely recognized editorial realizations. The work illustrates canto XIV of the Inferno by Dante Alighieri, corresponding to the seventh circle, where the souls condemned for blasphemy suffer the punishment of a ceaseless rain of fire. Dalí develops a composition of extraordinary originality, featuring a large animal-like skeletal structure, strikingly elongated and depicted in intense golden and greenish tones. The figure, with a nearly prehistoric appearance, rises diagonally above a geometric structure, while a succession of ultra-fine reddish lines converges toward the horizon, creating a surprising perspective and visual tension. The contrast between the delicate coloration of the composition, anatomical precision, and geometric abstraction constitutes a magnificent example of the master’s surrealist language, where natural forms are transformed into symbols of powerful evocation. The work belongs to the monumental editorial project carried out between 1959 and 1963, whose execution required approximately 3,500 woodcut matrices to reproduce the one hundred original compositions by Dalí. Copy presented on Japanese paper, with wide margins, natural edges and no visible watermarks, preserving the color richness and delicate graphics of this renowned composition. Condition: Shows slight signs of aging and small marks on the paper, noticeable in the photographs. Outstanding graphic work by Salvador Dalí, cataloged and of special interest to collectors of surrealism, bibliophiles, and major illustrated editions of the 20th century. Provenance: collection linked to Enrique Sabater
