Saint Jerome in the Cave Ferdinand Bol

A superb, richly inked impression, with lively wiping marks in the upper margin and inky plate edges, with a fine thread margin around the platemark. The saint seated at left before a cave, holding a crucifix, with a lion at left, the cardinal’s hat suspended from a nail and a gourd at upper right. – A small, skilfully repaired tear at the upper edge and a small paper loss at the upper right edge. The paper slightly time-stained, with a few tiny, scattered brown spots and horizontal fold marks. Verso with remains and traces of a former mounting. Otherwise in very good condition. | 1616 Dordrecht - Amsterdam 1680 | 15.-18. Jahrhundert | Druckgrafik | Nummer: 26x1862 | Provenance: George Usslaub (1845–circa 1929), Marseille, with his collector’s stamp verso (Lugt 1221).
