Russian Empire — postal and telegraph history group, 1882–1899. 9 items: postal covers, money/value letter, railway post, international mail and an original telegram form. A key part of the lot is a group of 3 covers connected with the office / board of the Nobel Brothers Petroleum Production Company in St. Petersburg, one of the major oil companies of the Russian Empire. Included: 1. Small cover, 1887, addressed to Mr I. S. Fliber at the Nobel Brothers office in St. Petersburg. Franked with 5 kopecks + 2 kopecks, with railway post / postal wagon cancellation and St. Petersburg city post mark on the reverse. 2. Large cover, 1888, from Saratov to St. Petersburg, addressed to the Board of the Nobel Brothers Petroleum Production Company. Franked with 5 kopecks + 2 kopecks, with Saratov and St. Petersburg postal markings. 3. Small cover, 1889, addressed to Mr I. S. Fliber at the Nobel Brothers office in St. Petersburg, with railway post / postal wagon cancellation and St. Petersburg city post mark. 4. Money/value letter from Ryazan to Brussels, Belgium, 1891. Addressed to Monsieur Ferdinand Leschevin, Rue des Riches-Claires 35, Bruxelles. The cover indicates a value/contents of 2 roubles / 8 francs and retains red wax seals of the Ryazan city postal-telegraph office. Transit and arrival markings include Kybarty / Kybartai. 5. Russian Empire 7 kopecks postal stationery cover sent to Ostende, Belgium, 1882. Addressed to Ivan Stephen. With “Postal Wagon No. 6” railway post cancellation, blue sender’s cachet “A. Rawicz” and Ostende arrival mark. 6. Cover addressed to the Mariinsky female gymnasium in Moscow. Interesting item connected with education and women’s schools in the Russian Empire. 7. Cover to St. Petersburg with “Postal Wagon No. 3” railway post cancellation, 1884. 8. Older cover/letter with wax seal traces and early postal markings. Weaker condition, but adds historical depth to the group. 9. Official Russian Empire telegram, 1899, on a pre-revolutionary telegraph form. Telegram No. 8966, note “Received from apparatus No. 51”, dated 29 October 1899, with closing flap bearing a double-headed eagle seal. The lot is of interest to collectors of Russian Empire postal history, railway post, Russia–Belgium mail, money/value letters, telegraph history and Nobel Brothers related material. Condition: please see photos. Age and postal handling wear: folds, stains, tears, wear, wax seal traces, partly weak cancellations and handwritten inscriptions.
